Bristol Fall Classic to honor Bristol Borough Native Son
BRISTOL BOROUGH, PA … The 12th Annual Bristol Fall Classic is happening on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Bristol Borough Public Works Building at 92 Maple Beach Road. Tickets are $75.00 per person and can be purchased one of two ways: online at www.bblearningcenters.com or in person at the Bristol Borough Tax Office or Mignoni Jewelers on Mill Street during normal business hours.
The Bristol Fall Classic is the primary fundraiser of the Academic Oversight Committee (AOC) to help supplement necessary after-school academic enrichment programming associated with and required by the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21CCLC) grants awarded to the Bristol Borough School District that benefit all public and parochial schools in Bristol Borough. These grants are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and provide funding to help students attending high-poverty and low-performing schools meet state and local standards in core academic subjects.
The Bristol Fall Classic recognizes a person of achievement. This year’s Person of the Year is Bucks County Commissioner Robert J. Harvie, Jr., a native son of Bristol Borough, having attended the Bristol Borough schools graduating from Bristol High School in 1989. Following a distinguished college career at George Washington University, Harvie became a public high-school history teacher. Harvie worked first at Cherokee High School in New Jersey, before joining the faculty at Bucks County Technical High School in Levittown, PA. While simultaneously teaching high-school history, Harvie served as a Falls Township Supervisor for 15 years. After three decades as an educator and local elected official, Harvie decided he was “ready to take another step” into a bigger arena running for Bucks County Commissioner where he oversees the management and financial operations of Bucks County.
Harvie credits his family for sparking his interest in public service. “Watching family members involve themselves in youth sports, PTO, school board, the church, and local government, I learned very early in my life to believe that your community was only as good as you were willing to make it. I have tried to use whatever skills and energy I had to make a difference and that has led me to where I am today.”
Teachers of the Year, Maria Sanson with St. Mark School, and Bristol Borough School District educators Dave Tyrell, Michelle Scenna, and Darah Nocito-Herbst, selected by their peers, will also be recognized, along with Student of the Year, Andreas Quattrocchi, selected by the faculty and administration of Bristol High School will also be acknowledged.
Please join the Academic Oversight Committee (AOC) at the Bristol Fall Classic to acknowledge and honor Bucks County Commissioner Robert J. Harvie, Jr., for all he has accomplished and understand how he “gets stuff done.”
