2023 Bristol Fall Classic

Bristol Borough, PA, October 22, 2023… The Academic Oversight Committee (AOC), a non-profit focused on accelerating the academic learning experience at Bristol Borough’s public and parochial schools, is honored to announce Patrick W. Mulhern has been named the AOC’s “Person of the Year” for 2023.

Patrick received this prestigious award for his quiet and continuous contributions to leading the effort to protect and maintain Bristol Borough’s biggest natural assets, the Delaware River and Burlington Island.

Patrick puts action into service with his countless efforts cleaning up the Island, championing efforts to reduce the transfer of litter into the river, and teaching young people why these natural assets are essential for our environment. Knowing that Bristol Borough’s water supply comes from the Delaware River, Patrick’s focus is one of the reasons why the river and island’s appeal increases annually having a direct impact on Bristol Borough’s Day wharf and commercial corridor along Mill and Market Streets.

Patrick is also making a difference in his capacity as Chairperson of the Friends of Burlington Island and a member of its board since its inception in 2019. He has worked ferociously to enhance this jewel situated in the Delaware River, just across the river from Bristol Borough’s waterfront working with civic, community, and commercial enterprises to remove tons of waste and debris. In his spare time, Patrick is a personal trainer and co-owner of Driftwood Water Adventures with seasonal operations in Falls Township and Tyler State Park.

Patrick will be recognized for his contributions at the AOC’s annual Bristol Fall Classic, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Bristol Borough Public Works Building, located on Maple Beach Road, from 6 pm to 9 pm, with catering provided by the King George II Inn. Tickets are $60.00 per person and available for purchase at the Bristol Borough Tax Office, Great ID’s by Anne, Mignoni Jewelers, during normal business hours, and online at www.BBlearningcenters.com/events/bristol-fall-classic/.

Bristol Borough schools’ Teachers of the Year and Student of the Year will also be announced at the Bristol Fall Classic. The teacher awardees are selected by teaching peers and the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Broadus Davis, selects a top senior student based on established criteria with coordination and input from Bristol High School faculty.

Commenting on his award, Patrick said “I am honored to have been selected as the Academic Oversight Committee’s Person of the Year. I love what I do and have been enraptured by the river and island since I was a child. It’s great to see the Renaissance taking shape here in Bristol Borough and on the island and if I can be a small part of creating a spark in students about why the river and island need to be protected, I’ll take that any day. The best is yet to come”.
