Jazz on the River
Jazz on the River
APRIL 2020 UPDATE: The pandemic has caused us to rethink everything we do, including future agendas. It has, unfortunately, resulted in the cancellation of our annual June, outdoor concert, Jazz on the River. Although we know this is the right decision, it is difficult for many reasons.
- As one of only two premier fundraising events* hosted by the Academic Oversight Committee (AOC), it is a significant loss of financial support. The amazing team at the King George II Inn provides the food and music for this event and donates 100% of all ticket sales to the AOC. Their generosity over the last four years has resulted in $60,000 of financial support for educational enrichment, otherwise unavailable in Bristol Borough. This support was a significant portion of the $17,751 grant contributions made to local public and parochial schools and eligible-resident students in 2019 alone.
- The highly-anticipated announcement of the AOC's 2020 Person of the Year and Teachers of the Year usually occurs during this event. It will now take place at an undetermined future date and time.
*The AOC’s other annual fundraiser, the Bristol Fall Classic, was originally scheduled for November 21, 2020, but has been cancelled as well.
The AOC recognizes the deleterious effect the virus has had on the lives and livelihoods of so many local businesses, good friends, and supporters like you. One thing we can do to help alleviate the negative impact is to use the $50 you'd have spent on a concert ticket to place a take-out order or purchase a gift certificate to any of Bristol Borough's award-winning restaurants (including the King George II Inn), honor your house of worship with a donation, or make a return visit—when permissible—to patronize the retail, cultural, and recreational accommodations located throughout Historic Bristol Borough. For more info on the Borough's businesses and tourism option, go to Visit Bristol Borough and Bristol Borough Business Association. Thank you for this consideration.
